Floating Lights and Vintage Chairs

Yes, that is a swimming pool in the dining room.
(The attorney in me is wondering about the home insurance premiums and the existence of a kid-proof fence!)

Although this set-up could provide for some very interesting dinner parties, it’s the playful light fixture arrangement and the modern vintage chairs that caught my eye.  You could totally recreate this look on a budget using your traditional dining room table.

For  lighting,  purchase a few affordable Ikea ceiling fixtures and throw in a couple battery-operated pretty paper lanterns, all hung at varying heights over the dining room table.

May I suggest the Ikea Fillsta Pendant Lamp ($49.99):

FILLSTA Pendant lamp white Diameter: 31 " Cord length: 71 " Diameter: 78 cm Cord length: 180 cm

And the Ikea Maskros Pendant Lamp ($89.99) (my almost-neighbors John and Sherry from Young House Love recently used this in their bedroom):

IKEA PS MASKROS Pendant lamp Diameter: 32 " Cord length: 71 " Diameter: 80 cm Cord length: 180 cm

And the ubiquitous Ikea Knappa Pendant Lamp ($34.99):

KNAPPA Pendant lamp white Diameter: 18 " Height: 14 ¼ " Cord length: 15 ' 5 "  Diameter: 46 cm Height: 36 cm Cord length: 4.7 m

And add a few of these which operate on batteries (so no electrician required):

White 16 Inch Round Paper Lanterns

And you are in business.   The floating white lights would look amazing against a saturated wall color like a peacock blue or an emerald green.

As for the companion modern chairs, Target and West Elm are good inexpensive options.  I love my Target chairs (found here online for $79.99 for 2, but are almost always cheaper in the store):

Or West Elm has these Scoop-Back Chairs for $158 for 2:

Add your traditional dining room table (which no one will even notice because of the cool lighting and unexpected chairs), and you got yourself a gorgeous dining room on the cheap!  Oh, and throw in a pool too, if you are so inclined….

Home Decorators Doubletake

Upon arrival in my household, usually the Home Decorators catalog does directly into the recycle bin.  Think cheesy doctors’ office
waiting room furniture.

However, after seeing a few promising items on design blogs recently, I leafed through my catalog over the weekend.  And wow!  Great stuff and prices.  They are collaborating with Martha and must be under new creative direction!
Check it:

{Garden Side Chair, Home Decorators, $99}

{Reflections Storage Shelf, Home Decorators, $349}

{Martha Stewart Fretwork All Weather Rug, Home Decorators, $34-$257}

{Emily Side Table, Home Decorators, $169}

{French Side Chairs, Home Decorators, $169}

{Ainsworth Beveled Mirror, Home Decorators, $299}

{Distressed Cain Candleholders, Home Decorators, $17-$29}

Keep up the good work, Home Decorators!

P.S. If you haven’t checked out the new High Gloss Magazine, grab your beverage of choice and devour it.  Kudos to Paloma, Erin and the whole team!  My fave spread is Jamie Meares‘ house – gorgeous.

Buy This, Not That: I Did!

I have been eyeing these modern dining chairs for a while.  So….

LOVE THIS?

{Eames Molded Plywood Dining Chair, Design Within Reach, $499 for white}

AND LOVE THIS TOO?

{Scoop Back Chairs, West Elm, $99 for designed chairs, $79 for white chairs}

BUY THIS!

{Modern Stacking Chairs, 2 pack, Target, $59.99 for 2 (in stores), less than $30 per chair!}

I did a post a while back on the gray and white West Elm chairs above and have been thinking about those beauties ever since.  Earlier this week, I saw the Target chairs above on sale at my local store for $59.99 for 2!

We have the kitchen table and chairs that my family sat at throughout my childhood.  For sentimental reasons, I don’t think that I could ever get rid of the table, but the set looks really dated (uh hem, ’70s).  I wanted a little update without getting a new kitchen table set.  These chairs are perfect!

I snapped some impromptu, before-and-after pictures last night before dinner:

AFTER:

I love the new sleeker look!  There is no longer a jumble of thick wooden spindles under the table. I was considering painting the table, but I really like the contrast of the wood table and white chairs.  The white chairs break up the color of the floor and the table.  I am really enjoying my $30 chairs!

Happy Memorial Day weekend!  I hope it’s fabulous.  xxoo!

Love At First Sight

Won’t you come lounge at the end of my bed or hang out in my front hall?

LoL at Target

I know that this topic has been all around the blogosphere of late, but I just saw the special edition Liberty of London items at Target in person yesterday, and just about FLIPPED OUT.  Every item is gorgeous and affordable.  As you will see below, many of the items are sold out online, but were plentiful at my local Target.

Fair Warning: you will fall in love with all of the Liberty of London stuff and your willpower will not be able to resist its fabulous charm.

Shall we?  My faves:

{Liberty of London Turquoise Isis Print One Piece Swimsuit, $34.99}

{Liberty of London Garla Print Flip Flops, $12.99, Ed. Note: These were a NEED, not a WANT}

{Liberty of London Night Gown, $19.99}

{Liberty of London Boxer, $5.99}

{Liberty of London Toddler Girls Romper, $14.99, Ed. Note: This is way cuter in person}

{Liberty of London Toddler Girls Dress, $14.99, Ed. Note: This may or may not have ended up in my shopping cart….}

{Liberty of London Piggy Bank, $9.99, Ed. Note: Wouldn’t these make adorable book ends?  Loves.  This is sold out online, but there were plenty of piggy banks at my local Target, and again, it was not of my own volition that one jumped into my buggy}

{Liberty of London Lamp Shade, ~$30 (sold out online, but this beauty was there IRL at my local store)}

{Liberty of London Floral Print Chair, sold out online}

{Liberty of London Dunclare Dining Collection, sold out online}

Honestly, I could have bought one of everything that Liberty of London had to offer.  Run, do not walk!, to your local Target and check it out.  But don’t say that I didn’t warn you when you walk out with half of the store in your big red cart!

Currently Coveting

These fresh and preppy gray and white striped scoop back chairs from West Elm for my kitchen table:

I can think of nothing else.  $99 a piece, or $396 for the set.  Oy.

Score!

During our recent trip to Tybee Island, Georgia, we visited a bunch of our best friends in Savannah (where we lived for 3 years before moving to Richmond).

Former neighbors of ours recently moved into a much bigger home and they were showing us around their gorgeous new digs.  We sauntered into the HUGE walk-in attic, and I saw a set of bar stools that I have always loved and complimented them.  And she said, “Oh, you can have those, they are too short for our new bar counter.”

I put up a half-hearted fight and then Mr. Spark! quickly loaded them up in the Suburban before she could change her mind!

Check out my new bar stools….FO’ FREE (oh and my cute little chair model too)!  Teaches me the power of a compliment!  🙂

You may remember from this post, I have been coveting these bar stools from 24E in Savannah for a while.

24estoolsAt $189 a pop and $378 (+ shipping) for the pair, I think I will stick with my free knock-offs for a while!  🙂

Happy Friday y’all!
