Guest Blog — Buy This, Not That!

Happy Monday, y’all!  I am blog-squatting again today over at one of my fave blogs – My Little Happy Place.  I prepared a “Buy This, Not That” featuring accessories for her 2 year old’s “big girl room”.

Please CLICK HERE to check it out!

As a companion to the post, check out these other great finds that I discovered while putting it together.  I had so much fun!

This feminine and sparkly mirror from Ballard Designs would be perfect in a little girls room hanging over a dresser with a pretty vintage brush and comb set.

I love this neutral, but not at all boring, textured Garden Party Rug from PB Teen.  It would look great just about anywhere.

I *heart* this mirror!  It is from Pottery Barn and on sale right now for $249.99.  Isn’t the curvy shape so sexy and striking?

This irresistibly sweet lamp from the Land of Nod is perfect proportion for a bedside table or a bathroom light.  This would look great in a kitchen or eating nook too.  Adorable!

Bargain alert!  This fun pillow from Pier 1 is a mere $22.  It looks like an artist’s doodles on a newspaper.

I love this darling pillow from — wait for it — Target!  I especially like her swing coat and oversized handbag slung over her shoulder.  Too cute.

targetpillowAnd finally, these head-turning beauties may find their way into my home office.  Who doesn’t love this chic, leggy, blonde gal next door?

Thanks again to Alison from My Little Happy Place for hostessing me for the day!

Buy This, Not That — Beach House Edition

Back by popular demand!!  I got so many positive comments on the last edition of “Buy This, Not That,” that I decided to make it a recurring theme.

I just finished The Beach House by Jane Green, which was set in a fabulous estate on Nantucket.  It was a yummy summer read and I was inspired to do a beach house edition of “Buy This, Not That.”  As always, most of these pieces would fit in with just about any decorating style – they are not limited to just a beach house.  Enjoy!

Decorating in a Pinch

I have a colleague and friend who is in the process of adopting three little girls.  The adoption process has been quick and I am so flattered that she asked for my help to decorate the girls’ bedrooms.  We began with a room for the 8 year old.   She was looking for functional and affordable pieces for the bedroom that could be in place in a matter of a couple weeks.  She preferred not to re-paint the room right away.  The room is painted Restoration Hardware‘s Silver Sage

My inspiration is a picture that I pulled out of a Land of Nod catalog when I was expecting – I love the clean and restful look of the blue walls with the white furniture:

Below are my initial ideas.  I love the feminine white bed and the clean white linens with her name monogrammed on the sham.  We talked about the importance of making this space unique to this special little girl and making her feel loved and welcome.

I adore this sweet, delicate vanity from Target.  I can already imagine her brushing her hair, painting fingernails and playing dress up in front of the mirror!  I would love to pair it with a brightly colored overstuffed pouf chair (channeling Little Miss Muffet’s tuffet!).

To add some visual interest and playfulness, I would hang 3 or 4 paper lanterns with clear fishing wire in different sizes and at varying heights around the room.  These will provide depth to the space and movement, as the air circulates through the room.

My initial vision reflected above has been tweaked some through our collaboration and the lovely room is beginning to take shape.  I will keep you posted about our adventures in decorating for this very lucky little girl and her two sisters!

I found this great floor lamp at Target today. I pulled it off the shelf and got a good look at it. I love the high gloss finish and it’s really sturdy and good looking. Not to mention affordable – only $69.99!  Gasp!  It would look great in a traditional or modern study with a pretty ivory, pale green or silver silk drum shade. Love Tar-jay!spark!-ette
