An Inpsired Home

Bravo to Southern Living for their fabulously designed 2009 Idea House!  Set in the mountains in Dahlonega, Georgia, this home is right up my alley in so many ways.  I have shared some of my favorite rooms:

slfronthall

Welcome!  This gorgeous front hall is a mere preview of this stylish home.  I love the modern wallpaper and the shape of the mirror.  The console table is the perfect size for the space.  I like the symmetry that the Italianate lamps provide.  Lovely!

SLdining

A near perfect dining room, in my opinion.  Of course, I love the white walls, and the neutral seagrass rug.   White walls and a neutral rug provide the perfect setting for beautiful design.  The use of the pretty red and white chinoiserie fabric on the seat cushions and the panels is provides just the right amount of  color and pop!  I am surprised at how much I like the wood stained Chippendale chairs with the white table.  I usually would not mix the wood stained chairs with the white table, but it works and looks great!  And I love the blue China place settings.  The wall of windows and view of the mountains doesn’t hurt either.

SLbedroom

Along the same lines, I love the use of a neutral background in this bedroom to focus the eye on the gorgeous fabric.  The very light sea foam blue walls, neutral rug and the mostly white matelasse cover on the bed draw your attention to the beautifully upholstered headboard and matching sham.  The use of the patterned fabric is just right – it does not overwhelm the room.  The accessories are lovely — delicate chandelier, rich benches at the foot of the bed, tailored and understated window treatments and soft blue gourd lamps on either side of the bed.

SLbedroom2

I adore this little writing desk to the right of the bed.  The delicate proportion is perfect for placement in front of the windows because it does not detract from the view, but provides a functional space that could serve as a desk or a vanity table.  I applaud the minimal amount of furniture in this bedroom – it’s not too crowded, not too spartan and every piece has a function.  Divine!

SLbathroom

{Swoon!!!}  Let me count the ways that I love this bathroom….  First of all, I am coveting these tall, beautifully crafted vanities with lots of storage space.  And I love the contrast between the sage blue grass cloth walls, thick white trim and dark wood floors.  The large windows and mirrors fill the space with lots of natural light.  Sign me up!

slhall

Don’t you love these banisters with the custom “cut out” spindles?  I especially like the contrast between the dark railings and floors, with the white walls and spindles.

slguest

Be my guest!  What a lovely second bedroom.  The light green damask wallpaper provides a scrumptious backdrop for the crisp and clean white headboard, bed linens and lamp shades.  Nothing better than crawling into sumptuous white sheets at the end of the day!  I wish that I could see more of that chandelier because it looks fab too!

slkids

This children’s room is the perfect mix of bedroom and playroom.  The daybed can be used for seating by day and sleeping by night.  The stripes on the walls are furring strips, which provide both texture and stripes to the walls.  I love the whimsical canopy and (of course) the mod lucite table.  Not sure how long that white, scalloped bed cover would last in our house, but it’s lovely!

Kudos to Southern Living and their design team on a job very well done!

Bullseye!

A recent trip to Target introduced me to all of the new Dwell Studio for Target items they are offering this season.  What gorgeous stuff at great prices!

I bought two of these Lattice Decorative Pillows ($24.99 each) for our family room.  The reverse side has a powder blue background with brown lattice and white stiching.

I also bought two of these Blue Bird Decorative Pillows ($24.99) to complement the look.  They look great on our brown couches.

targetbirdpillowIf my Target had these mod brown pillows ($19.99) in stock, I probably would have thrown a couple in the cart too.

I also love this Peony Decorative Pillow ($24.99):

And I am digging this woodsy Foliage Pillow (great for fall!) ($19.99).

The Dwell kitchen sets are so lovely and affordable ($19.99).  They would make great hostess gifts.  The sets include two potholders and three tea towels, and come in black and rust.

Check out this gorgeous green Garden Pattern Rug ($139.99 for 5×8).  This would look fabulous in an entry hall.

In a similar vein, this Foliage Comforter Set is fun – it reminds me of Marimekko, but only $89.99 for shams and a queen sized comforter!

dwellbedding

I love this unique black bedskirt with the grosgrain ribbon detailing ($38.48).  Instant modern drama to any room!

Drooling over this adorable Bird in a Tree Duvet Set ($49.99 for twin with a sham, $59.99 for F/Q with two shams) for little girls.

dwellkids

This Upholstered Storage Bench ($199.99) would look great with a tray on top as an impromptu end table, at the foot of a bed or in a play room.

dwellbench

And this Bath Rug ($24.99) is fab too.

dwellbath

Check out this great Silver Lake Desk – perfect for small spaces – like tucked away in a hallway or a nook in the kitchen ($129.99).

I hope you are grabbing your car keys and on the way out the door to Target!  Oh, and while you are there, pick up a pair (or two) of the most adorable and comfy PJ pants you can find ($16.99 by Nick & Nora).  I promise you won’t regret it!

Savannah Dreamin’

avia10

While I was in Savannah for work (oh yeah, that), I stayed a night at the newly-opened, tres chic Avia Hotel.  What an experience!  This is not your typical polyester-floral-comforter-having, lighthouse-watercolors-hanging-on-the-wall, towels-as-soft-as-sandpaper kinda hotels.  Check out the expansive and inviting lobby – I love the chandelier covered in the oversized drum shade.

The room was beautifully appointed.  I loved the light plum colored walls contrasted with the lime green accessories and the dramatic, mother of pearl colored, leather headboards.   The stark white trellis patterned quilt and high thread count sheets were so inviting – who doesn’t sleep better in soft, luxurious, white sheets?  Each room had a perfectly sized flat screen television and a mini bar filled with goodies from Dean & Deluca.

avia12

And the spoiling did not stop there!  The bathroom was full of delicious Lather products and had a mod granite shower closet, illuminated by an eco-friendly light tube.

avia13

Although I didn’t get to take advantage of all of the amenities, my room overlooked the beautiful pool, which beckons with the tented cabanas, pretty chaises, oversized red pillows and white towels.

avia11

And I would have loved to have taken a glass of wine outside for a night cap in front of the awesome fire pit.

avia14

If I weren’t so busy with work, I would have had time to visit my favorite interior design stores in Savannah, like 24e, Circa Lighting, DC2, The Paris Market, @Home, The Cottage Shop and Shop SCAD.  Maybe next time – I will be returning in October just for fun!
