An Open Letter to Rachel Zoe

Dear Rach:

Rachel Zoe is beand ambassador for Exude lipstick

I love your show and happen to think that you are BANANAS.  Your fashion styling is impeccable, spot-on and always uber fashion forward.  However, your interior styling needs some serious help.  I die, literally.

I know you put a lot of stock in your new assistant, Jeremiah Brent, who has some interior design experience, and I agree that he is adorbs to look at, but lemme tell ya, hmm how to say this, umm well…HE SUCKS.

I know he was under a time deadline and you and Rodge love clean, white and glam, but he HAD NO BUDGET, and this is the best he could come up with for your dining room?

No rug, no fabric, a builder’s light fixture.  Really?  YAAAAAAAAAAWN.

May I suggest….

Which is still white and black with pops of yellow, but is way more glam, warm, and sophisticated and not THAT complicated.  Bloggers DIY floors like that everyday.  See what I mean, girlfriend?

Moving on to your living room.  Le sigh.  It has some nice features like the tufted sofa with nailhead trim, but the lamps are the wrong scale and look straight out of Homegoods.  And I happen to detest the overgrown bean bag chairs, SO. NOT. GLAM.  Are window treatments too much to ask for?

How about this?  Which is way more sophisticated, not THAT complex, yet still simple and chic….

And finally, the library/ study.  Sweetie, this is just plain sad.  Couldn’t Jeremiah find more furniture for the room?  Shoot, head on over to Ikea.  The bookshelf styling, well, isn’t.  This room needs some oooomph, like stat.

You need something like this where you can relax, read your fashion mags and gossip with Kate Hudson:

Clean, bright, warm, functional, simple, inviting.

So, Rachie-poo, as cute as he is, Jeremiah ain’t cut out for interior design.  Call me.  We’ll chat and get you pointed in the right direction.  In no time, your house will be EVERYTHING.  But I can’t promise that I will get along with Joey and Rodge — they are serious divas.

xxoo, ada

P.S. I miss Brad.  Like, a lot.

My Sliver of Missoni Mania

I was a day late, but luckily still managed to snag a few cute Missoni for Target items.  Surprisingly, our Target wasn’t completely wiped out at 9am yesterday.  But still, I didn’t get the one item that I was jonesing for, which apparently is now being sold on eBay for oodles (OMG, check out this Buy It Now for $350!, more than 8 times its asking price at Target, whaaaaa?):

Missoni for Target® Throw - Colore

I was suprised that there was a bunch of kitchenware, computer cases, notecards, kids and baby clothes and accessories, makeup cases and even 2 bikes left when I stopped by over 24 hours after the launch.

Here is what I picked up:

Clockwise: 1. Notecards, 2. Girls Sweater Tunic, 3. Girls Sweater Leggings, 4. Mug, and 5. Baby Blanket (note the hint of green and lots of hot pink!).

The blanket is the first thing that I have bought for the new baby!  Here is a close-up:

It will look fun in her nursery!  If it’s good enough for Rachel Zoe, it’s good enough for her, right?

Per my sources at Target (the check-out dude), I hear there will be one more replenishment sometime around the 1st of October.  Tell me, what did you snag and what will you be watching for??

Oscar Run-Down: The Good, the Bad and the Snarky

Oscar fashion was mostly hits, with a few serious misses.  And speaking of misses, was Anne Hathaway so flipping annoying last night or what?  You know it’s bad when you start putting her on mute a mere 10 minutes into the show.

On to the fashion of the night — it was the night of metallics!

My votes for best dressed at the Oscars:

Although she’s not getting a ton of press (because I don’t think she’s “Hollywood cool”), I thought Mandy Moore looked stunning last night.  When she stepped onto the red carpet, I didn’t even recognize her.  Loved her in this Monique Lhuillier dress!  This picture does not do her justice — she was breathtaking.

Let me preface by saying that I am NOT a Gwyenth Paltrow fan, and think she is a b*itchy mean girl, but she looked amazing in this liquid platinum-esque Calvin Klein creation.  Hair and make-up were flawless.

Again, I am not a huge Hilary Swank fan, but I thought she killed it in this Gucci dress.  I liked the elegant playfulness of the dress and that it fit Hil like a glove.

On to the snark.  My votes for the most disappointing fashion last night:

Reese, Reese, Reese.  This is THE MOST BORING DRESS in the world.  I could find the same thing on the rack at any Dillard’s during prom season.  I can’t believe Armani Prive would even make such a non-fashion-forward frock.  Shame shame all around.

Ok, I can’t even get past the hair.  Scarlett Johansson‘s hair looked like a huge rat’s nest.  Even my husband made a comment when she was presenting, “Who let her go out there with her hair looking like that?”  And the Dolce & Gabbana dress was MEH – the color blended right into the red carpet and there was some rumblings on the pre-show that the back was sheer and her tushy was out there for the world to see.  Again, I couldn’t even get past her hair.  Gross.

And my vote for the worst dressed of the night, Oprah.  OMG, that boobage was downright SCARY.  I had to shield my eyes as she was presenting.  The top part of her Zac Posen dress was so tight, it looked like it may bust wide open (pun intended) at any moment.  And, yes I am going there, but she looks like she may be turning to tater tots, mac and cheese and Godiva for comfort upon the so-so launch of OWN.

Care to agree or disagree?  Who were your most and least faves of the night?

In Case You Missed It….

With the hustle, bustle and rush-tle of Christmas upon us, you may have missed some of these great posts from my favorite blogstresses.  These are my picks from around the ‘net these days:

I loooooove what my friend Alyson over at Richmond Real Estate Mom did with her extra grocery bags.  I am totally stealing this idea — I love that it’s thrifty, green, and chic.

Jackie at Sweetie Pie Style blogged about her 2011 Trend Forecasts, and she was spot-on.  I was going to do a post about my thoughts on the same topic, but decided that I may as well send you over there, because my post would have looked scarily similar.  I love her dot montage — dots are hot!

Speaking of 2011 trends, did you see that Pantone’s color of 2011 is Honeysuckle?  The selection seems kinda random and I am not sure that I am digging it (my girl Jeannine at Small & Chic in C-ville agrees).  Reminds me of: 1. a bad bridesmaid dress, 2. an overdone little girl’s room, 3. Pepto-Bismol, and 4. the Golden Girls.

Ok, maybe this will make me retract my previous opinion on Honeysuckle (check out the walls and trim below).  Anyway, I die for Tobi Fairley’s White Christmas Tree in her daughter’s playroom, and its all of its surroundings.  Serious design perfection.

I loved Elements of Style’s post on winter boots, and her reference to Ugg wedges led me to these beauties.  Santa, I just added these to my list, okthanks.

For all the moms out there, this post over at the new Good Tots blog provided me with some inspiration yesterday afternoon.  We made a great batch of Christmas-y chocolate covered pretzel rods.  My three year old had a BALL decorating them with crushed candy canes and sprinkles.  They were so festive that we put them in tins with cookies for our neighbors!

I saw this awesome yarn ball & ornament wreath by The Dear Diary Stories via My Favorite Things and think it’s a great DIY for Christmas.

Stay sane out there, peeps.  We went to see Santa yesterday and got an eyeful of the stressed-out masses, especially the Type A moms who were equipped with lip gloss, hairspray and extra shoe options FOR THEIR FIVE YEAR OLDS’ picture with Santa.  Oh, and then the inevitable fight about taking the picture again because it wasn’t perfect enough the first time.  Most wonderful time of the year, indeed.  🙂

{mini} Perfect Prezzies: 22 Days To Go!

Welcome to the last installment of {mini} Perfect Prezzies week!  Today, I am posting about the accessory of the season — the scarf.  It can be the primary element in an outfit or play a supporting role.  And they are affordable and easy to style.

I love Boden’s selection of accessories right now, especially their scarves:

I have posted about this one before, but I am still swooning over this bright, fun ikat scarf ($48).  It comes in five additional great colors too.

And, I am mad for plaid lately, so I think a gorgeous, modern tartan scarf would make a great gift for any preppy gal on your holiday list:

{Precocious Plaid Scarf, Anthropologie, $48}

These two scarves from Target would make a great gift, stocking stuffer or “purple elephant” present:

{Global Girlfriend, Darling Dots Scarf, Target, 100% cotton, $14.24}

{Muk Luks, Houndstooth Fur Scarf, Target, $24.99}

I hope this week has given you a few ideas for your holiday shopping.  I am back in town now and hope to be back to regularly scheduled posting next week.  Happy shopping!

Preppy Meets Practical

I am beyond thrilled that plaid is back!  I was a Catholic school girl growing up (ok, just to be clear, more Mary Catherine Gallagher than Britney Spears) and couldn’t look at plaid for many years without the reminder of all of those terrible uniforms and peter pan collared blouses.

But, my Pavlovian hatred of plaid has faded with the years and I am embracing plaid with a passion this season.

I LOVE THESE WATERPROOF BOOTS!  Wouldn’t they be great in the rain or snow with skinnies or leggings or some warm tights and a cute skirt?

{Pajar Highlander Plaid Boots, Sundance Catalog, $175}

Santa, are you listening?  These are at the top of my list this year!

Still Crushing Hard Core

If you see some random chick walking down the street in head-to-toe PURPLE, it’s probably me.  I’m still in love, and completely craving….

{Mo & J Ruffled Boiled Wool Jacket, Nordstrom, $98}

{Spun by Subtle Luxury, Animal Print Scarf, Piperlime, $40}

{Just-So Hat, Anthropologie, $39.95}

{Line of Latitude Sweater, Free People, $168}

{Betsy Johnson Owl Ring, Piperlime, $35}

Natalia dip-dyed satin ballet flats

{Decker Chronograph Purple Dial Watch, Fossil, $115}
