Random Things I Am Liking Lately

Hi — thank you for your encouragement yesterday with the One Room Challenge.  It’s time to motivate my husband to start painting!

Here are a few random things that I am liking lately.  Remember these posts from back in the day?

One Kings Lane has so many beautiful and accessible pieces of great art these days, including Michelle Armas, Brittany Bass and Jennifer Latimer, some of my favorite artists.  Check out this sale: In Fine Form.

This is my go-to summer t-shirt this season.  They are so soft, wash well and are the perfect length.  I used to buy Target and Old Navy tees, but found that they shrunk immediately, got stretched out after a couple hours of wear, and were so thin that they were see-through.  I have upgraded this year.  They come in a ton of colors and they are now on sale for $19.99!  If you order online, they run true-to-size (Ms fit me great).

Have you tried Blue Apron?  Each week they deliver the ingredients for three full meals to your door.  I have been loving it, especially the pre-measured portions and the minimal weekly meal planning.  Of the 9 meals that have been delivered so far, this one was the best!

This bathroom designed by Sherry and John Petersik of Young House Love is seriously perfect.  I love that nothing is “to the trade” and all so accessible to everyone.  I seriously COVET those shower tiles.

Have you read this book?  I loved it.  I am trying to whip this stressed-out voice in my head into shape and not let the small stuff constantly derail me.

And, finally, here is my new fave Tar-jay find for under $20.  He is prominently on display in our family room.  In person, mine is a little more distressed and imperfect.  Kind of like me.  🙂

Affordable and Easy DIY Art

Because I set a pretty strict budget for the One Room Challenge, I am going to try and DIY some art for the walls as placeholders until I can afford find the perfect “forever” art for the walls.  I definitely need an impactful, oversized statement piece for over the bed.

My super creative and thrifty friend Alyson, who is also participating in the One Room Challenge, posted last week about framed botanical wrapping paper (so genius).  And I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.

It got me remembering some beautiful blog posts about framed marbled paper….

There are some tutorials on how to make marbled paper, but there are some really affordable and gorgeous “pre-made” options out there:

Paper Mojo $6.15 for 24×36

Paper Source $6.50 for 20×29

I think these would be beautiful put into simple oversized frames, with or without a mat.

Here are some other easy and affordable ideas I am considering attempting:

{mini} Buy This, Not That!

Anyone remember these posts?  I have been coveting this duvet from Serena & Lily for some time and just saw a great knock-off for more than $120 less….

Random Things I am Liking Lately

Here are some random things on my “making-me-happy” radar screen lately:

Oversized Botanical Prints!  I love the idea of oversized botanical prints like these from Wisteria.  I can’t stop thinking about them.  They would be right at home in my dining room and already come framed….  Yesssssss.

Trader Joe’s (3 Minute!!) Steelcut Oatmeal!  As you can see, I hoard buy this in serious bulk.  I add a splash of milk, a dash of cinnamon and a banana…every morning and I never get tired of it!

Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and ConditionerI got a tip on this from one of my favorite bloggers (thanks, Jackie!) and can’t use anything else now.  My hair has never been softer or smoother.  You can find it at the grocery store or Target for as little as $4.99 a bottle.  A serious steal.

Gascon Malbec!  This $12 bottle of yummy goodness can be found at most grocery stores — I have also seen it at Trader Joes and World Market.  I am no wine expert, but I love the hint of mocha in the background.

Birch Box!  I just got a subscription for my birthday — I can’t  wait to get my first Birch Box.  Let me know if you want an invite!

Did I miss anything?  What’s on your radar screen today?

My Sliver of Missoni Mania

I was a day late, but luckily still managed to snag a few cute Missoni for Target items.  Surprisingly, our Target wasn’t completely wiped out at 9am yesterday.  But still, I didn’t get the one item that I was jonesing for, which apparently is now being sold on eBay for oodles (OMG, check out this Buy It Now for $350!, more than 8 times its asking price at Target, whaaaaa?):

Missoni for Target® Throw - Colore

I was suprised that there was a bunch of kitchenware, computer cases, notecards, kids and baby clothes and accessories, makeup cases and even 2 bikes left when I stopped by over 24 hours after the launch.

Here is what I picked up:

Clockwise: 1. Notecards, 2. Girls Sweater Tunic, 3. Girls Sweater Leggings, 4. Mug, and 5. Baby Blanket (note the hint of green and lots of hot pink!).

The blanket is the first thing that I have bought for the new baby!  Here is a close-up:

It will look fun in her nursery!  If it’s good enough for Rachel Zoe, it’s good enough for her, right?

Per my sources at Target (the check-out dude), I hear there will be one more replenishment sometime around the 1st of October.  Tell me, what did you snag and what will you be watching for??

hello again!

It’s been over 3 months since my last post and I have missed spark! and my readers so much.  My absence is due to a number of factors, including work and travel, but mostly because I am 15 weeks pregnant!  I have just recently emerged from the fog of fatigue and exhaustion that accompanies the first trimester.

We are thrilled, grateful and enjoying the journey.  I promise that this will not become a baby bump watch or nursery blog over the next five months, but I will share some of my thoughts and ideas on our house shuffle as we prepare to welcome the baby.

This week, I plan on sharing some of the updates that have happened around the house in the last 3 months.  First up, a quick refresh for the front porch.  I don’t think I have posted on the front porch since the front door was repainted.

I added Target outdoor pillows (in a great Imperial Trellis knock-off fabric) and inexpensive lanterns from HomeGoods ($12 each).

The final piece of the “front porch update” will be  this back-ordered doormat that I ordered on major sale (almost 50% off) from Garnet Hill:

{Another related tangent: Why is it so hard to find pretty doormats?  I usually have luck at Target, Pier 1, World Market or Homegoods, but theirs have been really fugly for the past year or so.  Any source suggestions?}

At some point, I would also like to replace the brass light fixtures with some that match the hardware on the door, like a pair of these Farmhouse Outdoor Lights from Shades of Light:

ol0026galvsteel-loc

We use the front porch a lot in the summertime, so we have been enjoying its refreshed look.

It feels really great to “be back” and my new mantra (after reading Good Enough is the New Perfect) is GOOD ENOUGH.  I am going to post as much as my time and priorities will allow!

Next up will be a post on the status of my living room update.  It’s definitely in-progress.  I am not sure that I have ever posted on my living room, so stay tuned, peeps!
