An Inpsired Home

Bravo to Southern Living for their fabulously designed 2009 Idea House!  Set in the mountains in Dahlonega, Georgia, this home is right up my alley in so many ways.  I have shared some of my favorite rooms:

slfronthall

Welcome!  This gorgeous front hall is a mere preview of this stylish home.  I love the modern wallpaper and the shape of the mirror.  The console table is the perfect size for the space.  I like the symmetry that the Italianate lamps provide.  Lovely!

SLdining

A near perfect dining room, in my opinion.  Of course, I love the white walls, and the neutral seagrass rug.   White walls and a neutral rug provide the perfect setting for beautiful design.  The use of the pretty red and white chinoiserie fabric on the seat cushions and the panels is provides just the right amount of  color and pop!  I am surprised at how much I like the wood stained Chippendale chairs with the white table.  I usually would not mix the wood stained chairs with the white table, but it works and looks great!  And I love the blue China place settings.  The wall of windows and view of the mountains doesn’t hurt either.

Along the same lines, I love the use of a neutral background in this bedroom to focus the eye on the gorgeous fabric.  The very light sea foam blue walls, neutral rug and the mostly white matelasse cover on the bed draw your attention to the beautifully upholstered headboard and matching sham.  The use of the patterned fabric is just right – it does not overwhelm the room.  The accessories are lovely — delicate chandelier, rich benches at the foot of the bed, tailored and understated window treatments and soft blue gourd lamps on either side of the bed.

I adore this little writing desk to the right of the bed.  The delicate proportion is perfect for placement in front of the windows because it does not detract from the view, but provides a functional space that could serve as a desk or a vanity table.  I applaud the minimal amount of furniture in this bedroom – it’s not too crowded, not too spartan and every piece has a function.  Divine!

SLbathroom

{Swoon!!!}  Let me count the ways that I love this bathroom….  First of all, I am coveting these tall, beautifully crafted vanities with lots of storage space.  And I love the contrast between the sage blue grass cloth walls, thick white trim and dark wood floors.  The large windows and mirrors fill the space with lots of natural light.  Sign me up!

slhall

Don’t you love these banisters with the custom “cut out” spindles?  I especially like the contrast between the dark railings and floors, with the white walls and spindles.

slguest

Be my guest!  What a lovely second bedroom.  The light green damask wallpaper provides a scrumptious backdrop for the crisp and clean white headboard, bed linens and lamp shades.  Nothing better than crawling into sumptuous white sheets at the end of the day!  I wish that I could see more of that chandelier because it looks fab too!

slkids

This children’s room is the perfect mix of bedroom and playroom.  The daybed can be used for seating by day and sleeping by night.  The stripes on the walls are furring strips, which provide both texture and stripes to the walls.  I love the whimsical canopy and (of course) the mod lucite table.  Not sure how long that white, scalloped bed cover would last in our house, but it’s lovely!

Kudos to Southern Living and their design team on a job very well done!
