Hooooo Doesn’t Love Owls?

I can’t get enough of the gorgeous owl’s round little figure, inquisitive eyes, serene disposition and infinite wisdom.

How adorable is this tea set from Viva Terra?

I love both colorways of this cute owl lantern from Urban Outfitters too.

A quick search on Etsy will uncover some gorgeous wall art and home decor items featuring owls, like this little gem:

This owl lamp from West Elm reminds me of Jonathan Adler, but it’s only $99!

I wouldn’t mind having this little guy underfoot!  (Owl Door Stop from Anthropologie)

Truth be told, this wallet ($9.99!!) was the inspiration for this post.  I couldn’t leave Target without him yesterday!

This trio from At West End would look great on a tablescape or mantel!

And finally, I just love these fluffy feathered guys from Z Gallerie.  I think they would look amazing sitting atop a bookcase or gazing from a console table in the front hall.

Random Things I am Liking Lately

What’s on my radar lately:

I am totally smitten with this bedroom.  I love the neutral colors, wall-to-wall seagrass rug, fabulous fireplace and amazing vertical bookshelf.  Perfect!

{Image courtesy of Laura Day via  Two Ellies}

This ain’t your mama’s one-piece.  Lotsa coverage with some va-va-voom.  Love the name too: the Accomodating Maillot (as in, for my big wide a$&).  :)

Life is a parade — don’t you love this Ditsy Pennants Pillow?  It would look perfect in a nursery, kids room or a beach house.    So adorbs.

Cutting for Stone is an amazing epic journey.   A moving and unforgettable story that I didn’t want to end.  Read it.

I saw this fun tray at my local Target and thought it was a cute, kitschy take on the “Keep Calm and Carry On” print:

This Antipasto-Style Penne is an amazing summer lunch or dinner.  I substituted diced ham for the proscuitto and it was equally as good.  It’s sooooo yummy and a good way to use up pesto before it goes bad.

I love body lotion and I have found a new fave: Heavenly Flowers by Victoria’s Secret.  It smells like a Michael Kors or D&G summer fragrance for a fraction of the price.  A whole bottle is on sale right now for $9.99!

With the humidity during the summers in Richmond, I am always looking for a good hair product to keep the “fly-aways” to a minimum.  My hair dresser came to my rescue last week — this shine spray by It’s a 10 does everything and smells divine too!

Reader Question: Affordable Stools

I love getting questions from Spark! readers.  I recently received this one from Julie:

I need some help with finding some great stools for my entry way. Seen any lately that aren’t $500?

I am imagining Julie using stools in her front hall like this:

{Image from DecorPad via Simplified Bee}

Or like this:

{Image from Little Green Notebook}

Although I do not know much about Julie’s entry way or her design preferences,  I decided to give her a wide range of options and keep it under $200 per stool.  Shall we?

Bargain Stools: Under $100

{Hourglass Side Table, Urban Outfitters, $78}

{Cindy Crawford Trellis Foot Stool, JC Penney, $99.99; and check out this post
on painting and recovering this stool by the girls over at Matters of Style}

{Zebra Kilim Stool, World Market, $59.99}

{Black and White Printed Stool, World Market, $79.99}

Stools That Won’t Break Your Bank: Under $200

{X Bench, Ballard Designs, as low as $179 depending on specs}

{Julah Ottoman, Anthropologie, $198}

{Louis Stool, Restoration Hardware, as low as $170 depending on specs}

{Charles Ghost Stool (Small) by Philippe Starke for Kartell, Unica Home, $127.50}

{Courbe Ottoman, Ballard Designs, as low as $149 depending on specs}

{Seagrass Stool, Gumps, $195}

{Chinese Garden Stool, Wisteria, $129, and if you didn’t see my previous post, try $49  for something similar at Target, click here to read}

{Pod Table, Urban Outfitters, $110}

It’s hard to pick a favorite, isn’t it?  Also, CB2 has some great options.  Their website was down when I was preparing this post, so definitely go check out their selection too.

Julie, I hope that I have given you some inspiration for your entry hall.  Thanks so much for writing!

Do you have a question?  I would love to hear it!  Leave me a comment or drop me a line at needsparkblog@gmail.com.

Progress Report on the Hallway Update

Remember my “New Years Prezzie-lution“?  Well, since the beginning of the year, it’s been moving in fits and starts.

Here is a before shot of the space:

And I added the pelmet box after the above shot was taken:

So, I began with the console (post here) to set along the long, empty wall in the hallway (took 2 months and multiple back-order notices, but it’s here!):

Next, I replaced those awful builder’s grade fixtures with these pretties (post here):

And throughout, I have been busily hanging photos, mirrors and art — all with black frames:

{Photo from Pottery Barn}

So, things are finally coming together, and I only have two more purchases before the BIG REVEAL — lamps and rug!  I am working on my lamps now.  I was originally going to go with something like these:

The green would pick up the colors in my stairway runner and my pelmet box in the dormer window.  But now, I am thinking that I want to move away from the colorful and more towards the vintage/eclectic!  These are my two favorites at the moment:

{Vintage Artichoke Table Lamp, Shades of Light, $175}

I would pair this one with a black shade:

{Liger Lamp, Urban Outfitters, $48}

Although the price is right on the Liger Lamp, and LBH it’s so damn adorable, I think it may be a little too small for the space.  The artichoke lamps would be more to scale, so I am leaning towards those.

What do you think???  Stay tuned!

Happy Bargain Hunting for Spring!

O Jewelry Tree!

These feminine and frivolous works of art have been popping up everywhere, haven’t they?  I was lucky enough to receive a jewelry tree as a gift last year for Christmas, and I love what an easy, convenient and beautiful addition it makes to my bedroom.

I have been eyeing these amazing jewelry trees handmade from antique tableware from Found Studio (artist is Caroline from Wanderings of a Wannabe!).  Each piece is one of a kind and she has them in all different color palates for ~$45.

I also love the simply and organic look of this (literal) jewelery tree from Sundance Catalog ($40).  It would look just right in any space.

I like the vintagey feel of this iron jewelry tree from PB Teen ($59), especially the glass finial at the top.

This whimsical fairy tale jewelry holder from Anthropologie ($128) would look good without bling!  I would love to set this on a shelf in baby spark!’s “big girl room.”

Urban Outfitters has a fabulous collection of jewelry trees:

{Spinning Bird Jewelry Stand, $32}

{Spirograph Jewelry Stand, $28}

{Lace Pedestal Jewelry Stand, $18}

I really think that a jewelry tree is a NEED, not a WANT, because afterall, where are you going to put all of that BLING that Santa is bringing you?!
